MEET EMILY BARRIEAU

HELLO EVERYONE

SO NICE TO MEET YOU

It sometimes takes a big change to take on a different perspective about our stuff. For me, it was 2016 when I left everything to move to China to teach for nearly two years. With only two suitcases, I was off, on my way to the land of way-outside-my-comfort-zone.

Without the know-how of speaking Chinese yet, I soon experienced what it was like to have no real social life and an enormous amount of free time after work. I had stumbled into this vortex of space and time and had completely fallen in love. I was surrounded by only my favourite things and loved it. And it didn’t take long for me to begin to question all the things I had left behind in storage, how would those things serve me upon my return?

There the spark was created, I became motivated to design a life around simplicity, easy habits, and to study the fascinating psychology of how we think about our stuff. I was moved by the feeling of space, calm, and rejuvenation. Inspired to teach others how to become deliberate in designing their spaces, instead of them happening by default. To be more intentional, to be less but better.

INSTEAD OF ASKING, "WHAT DO I HAVE TO GIVE UP?"
ASK YOURSELF, "WHAT DO I WANT TO GO BIG ON?"
